2012 Annual Appeal: The Fund for Green-Wood

$1.00

Dear Friends,

It’s been one heck of a year.

This afternoon as I write these words, the devastation from Hurricane Sandy is less than twenty-four hours old and the shock of seeing hundreds of uprooted trees, smashed monuments and destruction to our grounds is hard to bear.

In August, we endured heartbreak of the man-made kind when vandals ransacked more than 50 century-old memorials and monuments causing over $100,000 worth of damage.

Each of these incidents reminds us that Green-Wood, an important National Historic Landmark, is vulnerable. And we need your help to preserve and safeguard this cultural treasure visited last year by more than 250,000 people.

They came to Green-Wood to walk our hills, to visit the graves of the famous and the infamous, to view our art and architecture, and to enjoy our beautiful landscaping, natural beauty and more than 8,000 trees. Many thousands came to attend our public programs, tours and events, to watch theater and dance performed, to listen to poetry, and to learn.

I know you share our passion for Green-Wood.  It is my sincere hope that you will join us in supporting Green-Wood with a year-end contribution. Our future holds much promise and excitement–but only with your help.

With very best wishes for the holidays,

Richard J. Moylan
President

P.S. Your contribution, no matter how large or small, will make a real difference. Thank you for your support.
