On the night of Monday, October 29 and into Tuesday, October 30, 2012, Hurricane Sandy battered much of the East Coast, including Green-Wood Cemetery. 

Trees were uprooted; branches were snapped off; monuments were toppled and shattered. Green-Wood president, Richard J. Moylan tweeted early Tuesday morning that it is the worst damage he has ever seen in over 40 years on our grounds, adding that "more than 100 trees gone, hundreds are damaged and scores of monuments are badly damaged."

Green-Wood's talented staff and grounds crew have been invaluable to our efforts to recover from the damage. We are extremely grateful to our members, fans, friends, and neighbors who've expressed their support for Green-Wood.
